John Milton was an English poet and philosopher who ranks second amongst all English poets. His work reflects passion of freedom and portrays contemporary political scenario. Written in English, Latin, Greek, and Italian, his work is renowned in every corner of the world. His work consists of poems, prose, sonnets, history etc. Paradise lost and Paradise regained is his most celebrated works.His work and life is commemorated through various means by not only British Government but also by other countries. The Royal Mail issued a set of four stamps to commemorate significant political and cultural developments of the times. Being the expertise in this field John Milton secures a place on one of the stamp of this series.
Moreover, stamp depicting John Milton’s portrait is printed in USSR in 1958. John Milton is also given a special place on Medal. Commemorating his most notable work “Paradise Lost” his Bust appears on the obverse side. The reverse of the medal depicts a scene from “paradise Lost” depicting Eve and Adam and tree laden with apples with a serpent winding around it.
